Frequently Asked Questions
My Employee has received a notice that their tax code has changed, why is this not reflected in Pento?
The first step would be to ensure that you have set-up automatic HMRC updates, please see Help Article How to set up automatic HMRC updates.
If your settings are all correct, please contact support and let them know that you have checked your settings, they will be able to check if the HMRC connection is active.
Why has my Employee's tax code changed?
Pento checks automatic HMRC updates throughout the day, if your employee has received a P6/P9 (Tax code change) from HMRC, we are obligated to implement it, HMRC do not notify us of reasons for a tax code change, therefore if your employee does not agree with their new tax code, they will need to contact HMRC directly - you can find their contact details here.
A new Employee has provided their P45 after their first pay run, what tax code should I use?
If the P45 is in date i.e. from the current tax year, then you should update the tax code on Pento to match the P45, unless HMRC have issued a code prior to the employee providing their P45. HMRC generated tax codes always take precedence over the P45.
How do I know if an Employee has received a tax code notice?
You can see this in the payroll draft, the Employee will have a label under their name saying Tax Code Update.
