If you require additional, company-specific salary pay items such as daily rate payments and overtime, Pento allows you to set these up under the Settings > Rates. You can define them as hourly rates or units, and can set overtime to calculate automatically at an additional rate i.e. time and a half, double pay and so on.
Rates
In order to create a salary type rate, you will need to follow the steps below
- Navigate to Settings from the left sidebar
- Under the Payroll heading, select Rates
- Select + Create new rate
- Once you have selected Create new rate, you will need to select a Name from the dropdown menu
- Select the Type as Hours or Units from the dropdown list
- Enter the Rate per unit/hour
- Select whether this should be Pensionable or not
- Select save and close
Adding Rates to employee's pay
Once you have set up the Rates, you can add them to the relevant employees in the payroll draft, you will need to follow the steps below:
- Select Payrolls
- Select the relevant month
- Search and select the relevant employee
- Select Add pay item on the payslip preview
- Select Rates from the dropdown options
- Once you have selected the pay item, you will see it appear on the payslip preview, enter the hours or number of units
- If you need to remove any incorrectly added Rates, you can delete them from the employee's pay by clicking on the delete button highlighted on the right in the above screenshot

If you need to process rates for multiple employees e.g. if you have multiple employees with overtime hours, you can import the hours/units using our import tool. For guidance on how to do this, please refer to our help article Bulk add work hours
Please note – The overtime rate will automatically calculate based on the employee's salary defined on their employee record, multiplied by the rate set up in the Rates settings
