If you require additional, company-specific salary pay items such as daily rate payments and overtime, Pento allows you to set these up under the Salaries setting. You can define them as hourly rates or units, and can set overtime to calculate automatically at an additional rate i.e. time and a half, double pay and so on.
Salary Items
In order to create a salary type, you will need to follow the steps below
- Navigate to Settings from the left sidebar
- Under the Payroll heading, select Salaries
- Select + Create salary type
- Once you have selected Create salary type, you will need to select Salary from the dropdown menu
- Add a Description for the pay item such as Daily Rate
- Select the Type as Hours or Units from the dropdown list
- Enter the Rate per unit/hour
- Select Add salary
Please note – Salary pay items are automatically defined as pensionable, if you do not wish for the value to be included in the total sum used to calculate pension contributions, you will need to set up a custom pay item instead. Overtime
In order to create a salary type, you will need to follow the steps below:
- Navigate to Settings from the left sidebar
- Under the Payroll heading, select Salaries
- Select + Create salary type
- Once you have selected Create salary type, you will need to select Overtime from the dropdown menu
- Add a Description for the pay item such as Overtime x 1.5
- If you require the overtime to be included in the total sum used to calculate pension contributions, you will need to tick Pensionable
- You will need to define the Multiply by as 1 for standard rate overtime, 1.5 for time and a half, 2 for double pay, and so on
- Select Add salary
Any salary pay items you set up will remain on the Salaries tab where you can easily edit the settings should you need to, you will just need to select the salary type you wish to amend.
Adding Salary items to employee's pay
Once you have set up the Salary pay items, you can add them to the relevant employees in the payroll draft, you will need to follow the steps below:
- Select Payrolls
- Select the relevant month
- Search and select the relevant employee
- Select Add pay item on the payslip preview
- Select Salary type from the dropdown options
- You will see a Salary type dropdown added to the payslip preview, select the pay item you want to add to the employee
- Once you have selected the pay item, you will see it appear on the payslip preview, enter the hours or number of units
- If you need to remove any incorrectly added Salary items, you can delete them from the employee's pay by clicking on the delete button circled in the above screenshot
Bulk adding Salary items to employee's pay
If you need to process salary pay items for multiple employees e.g. if you have multiple employees with overtime hours, you can import the hours/units using our import tool. For guidance on how to do this, please refer to our help article Bulk add work hours
Please note – The overtime rate will automatically calculate based on the employee's salary defined on their employee record, multiplied by the rate set up in the Salary Type settings
