Adding Shared Parental Pay (ShPP) to an employee
Once you have established the employee's eligibility and entitlement, you can add the ShPP to their payslip by following the steps below:
- Navigate to Payrolls from the left sidebar
- Select the payroll draft you're adding the pay to
- Search for the relevant employee
- Select Add pay item on the payslip preview
- Select + Gross Addition from the dropdown menu
- Once selected, the following modal will appear:
- Select Shared parental pay from the Type of addition dropdown menu
- Once selected, you will see a screen similar to the below:
- Enter the details using the SPL form provided by your employee
- Select Next. You will see a screen similar to the below:
- Enter the Amount
- Select Pensionable if you would like the ShPP to be included in the pension calculations
- Select Add gross addition
Please note - You will need to calculate the ShPP manually. You can find the weekly rate in HMRC's Employer Guidance: Entitlement
- Once added, you will see the ShPP on the employee's payslip preview
Reclaiming Shared Parental Pay
ShPP works similarly to SMP where you can recover 92% of the total ShPP back from HMRC (103% for small employers)
As long as you use our pre-defined pay item from the Type of addition dropdown list, the reclaim will automatically be added to the Payroll summary for you:
